When I woke up this morning and heard the wind gusting outside I was a little worried that the ferries would be cancelled again today. I didn't feel any reassurance when I walked outside and almost got knocked over...this did not look good! The one upside though, it was sunny out! I decided to stop by the travel agency on my way to the port to inquire about the ferries (I prayed it wasn't the same guy that played a cruel joke on me yesterday). Amazingly enough, I was told that the ferries WERE running today! Yay! (I feel like I'm making Naxos seem like a horrible place because I am so eager to leave....not the case at all! It is very beautiful- it just would've been nice if the weather was a little better and I could have met some people!)
When I got on the ferry in Naxos it was already quite full (probably due to the fact that the ferries were cancelled yesterday), but it became even more full when we made a stop in Paros. They have a weird system of tickets for the ferries here which I'm not a fan of...There are different price levels of tickets you can buy- most people purchase the economy class because it is the cheapest but the problem is, there are no assigned seats. You are just supposed to find somewhere to sit- in the restaurant or cafes, or they have a stack of chairs that people use to sit in the hallways and walkways! Doesn't seem very safe in case of an emergency...You CAN try to snag leftover seats in the next price level up- the ones that are actually assigned. After waiting for people to finally find their seats I managed to get one...but only for about 5 minutes! But then I ended up sitting in a fold up chair beside a cute French boy so it didn't turn out too badly...although the romance didn't last long- his feet looked like they were the same size as mine! (HAHA picky much?!)
Byt 4pm I was back in Athens and back at the same hostel I stayed at when I was here the first time. The weather definitely isn't as hot as it was a few weeks ago, but at least the sun is shining! Tonight I plan on meeting up with some people I met in Santorini a few days ago. Not sure what is exactly in store, but I'm sure it will be a little more exciting than Naxos!
Love, Dianna

Naxos ... your pics of these Greek islands always portray a state of peacefulness. Is everything slow-paced?
