Before I tell you how my day went, there were a few things yesterday that I forgot to mention. First off, the shower. Maybe the reason the toilet overflowed was because all the water was going there and none to the shower. The barely-there trickle of water only came out about an inch from the wall. Now imagine THAT, plus the fact that it was a push-button to turn it on, which you had to hit every 5 seconds (you may think I'm exaggerating, but no, it really was that bad). At least the water was hot, though, so it had one thing going for it!
The other thing I want to talk about is cheese. You know how I bought some yesterday for my sandwiches? Turns out it is the stinkiest cheese EVER. It was called munster (definitely not like the stuff we always used to get in Florida!) and although it it didn't taste horrible, it stunk to high heaven! Anytime I opened my backpack (or even just put my nose near it) all I could smell was this stupîd cheese! There MUST be a way to make cheese smell nicer...
Alright, now getting to how my day went. Well, I was up before the sun (6am to be exact) so I could catch the subway to the train station to catch my 7:55am train to Bordeaux. I thought I would be seeing people going to work on the subway- turns out I was leaving the same time people were coming home from the bars! Everything went smoothly (except for smelling my stinky sandwiches the whole ride) and I arrived in Bordeaux around 11:30. I immediately went to book my ticket for San Sebastian tomorrow (I didn't want to wake up at 6am again!)
On my way to the hostel I noticed everything was eerily quiet...then I realized it's Sunday! (They really follow the "day of rest" thing around here.) I dropped off my stuff and then went to check out the town. I came across a few churches, went down some old narrow streets...I was making my way to another church (St-Michel) when-- boom! Out of nowhere, all these people appeared! Apparantly they weren't resting, they were all taking part in an antiques sale right in front of St-Michel! I continued to wander around the town seeing wonderful architecture- and enjoying the beautiful weather, too! Most of the stores were also closed in the busier part of town, but there were still lots of people walking around and still lots to see so it didn't bother me! On the way back to the hostel I stopped off at St-Michel again because I wanted to climb the tower. (the 2nd tallest stone tower in France!) 232 steps later I made it to the top and got some beautiful views of Bordeaux! Here are some pics from the day:
I also made a stop at the grocery store to get some food. On the menu tonight: a microwave dinner and some Bordeaux wine- classy!
I am absolutely exhausted so I think it's going to be another early night for me...I'm just a wild party animal aren't I!?
Love, Dianna
PS. I have the worst luck with showers! The ensuite shower in my room is out of order! I at least hope that the shower down the hall has a little better water pressure than the one in Paris!
The stinkier the cheese the better :) Microwave dinner hehee. Sounds like you are really enjoying yourself, why wouldn't you be right! I thought you did not like red wine? Has europe changed you???
