Day 2: Tired Tea Time!

While I was sitting in the airport last night, waiting to board the plane to London, I got thinking about the rant I went on in my last blog post about trying new things. I realized that I was being sort of a hypocrite. I mean, backpacking through Europe?! How unoriginal is that? Ya, it's something new for me but its still unoriginal nonetheless. I guess its what I do on my trip that will be the true test of my uniqueness! (And trust me, it's already been pretty exciting so far!)

Another thing I got to do while waiting for my flight is people-watch. Since I'm doing this trip alone its going to be all about the people-watching, which coincidentally, is one of my favourite things to do, so I have no problem with that! My first observation: how people make the goofiest faces at babies. We waste our time taking photos of the kid, when instead we should be watching the parents- hilarious! But a side note to that, babies do have the best laughs so I guess the goofy faces are understandable!

I just want to apologize if this post is full of typos or it doesn't make much sense. I'm soooo tired right now, yet it is soooo worth it! I guess I didn't realize that when my overnight flight arrived at 8am London time, that meant it was only 3am Toronto time. And there was barely any time to sleep on the plane...by the time they served dinner, it was already 10:30pm! I'm running on about 2 hours of sleep right now but I don't want to nap and miss out on all the excitement!

Laura (my sister-in-law) is my unofficial tour guide while I'm here and she has already earned the title of #1 tour guide in my books! Not that it took much to do that- she knew the key to my heart: food. She made a reservation for afternoon tea at Claridge's, and I have to admit I was thinking it was just going to be a little cup of tea and some biscuits on a plate. Oh boy, was I wrong! Luckily my brother mentioned we might want to dress up- it was fancy-schmancy! We started off with champagne (and no, it wasn't Baby Duck!).Then they brought out the cute little sandwiches with the crusts cut-off. Then they brought out more sandwiches (still no crusts). Then it was finally on to the actual tea (we just had Earl Grey but there were about 30 different teas to choose from!). And then they brought out the dessert. Oh man. Let me tell you, I was doing so good holding back the inner tourist in me, trying to act cool and not take pictures, but I couldn't resist when the sweets came out! Sooo cute, and sooo delicious! Oh, did I also mention the live pianist and cellist? What a wonderful way to spend my first afternoon in London!

Early to bed tonight and then more sight-seeing tomorrow! Can't wait!

Love, Dianna

  3. Bahaha I think I have a few stalkers already! I talked to my mom yesterday and she was like, "I already checked your blog but you didn't post anything yet!!" So it looks like I've have a few people that will be on my case if I don't keep up! More posts (and pictures, Tash!) to come!
