Day 10: Off to Madrid!

So I decided to take the bus today - it seemed like the easiest, fastest and most convenient way so I didn't mind paying the extra money. Plus another added bonus - I got to see all the lovely Spanish scenery! Well, sort of. When I was in Europe a few years ago, one of my favourite things I saw was all the beautiful sunflowers in the Italian countryside. Well they have the same thing here in Spain - although all the sunflowers have died so they weren't so pretty at this time of year! But I can imagine maybe a few months ago they were amazing!

I arrived in Madrid around 2.30. I could tell right away that this place would be a little more "Dianna-friendly" when I saw signs for Samsung, Toyota and Heineken...ahh, English! I forgot to mention that since arriving in Spain not only have I had to worry about understanding Spanish, but also Basque! I really have no clue what the language entails other than it has a lot of x's in it. It definitely added to my confusion but I survived so far!

I had to switch subways three times before I made it to my hostel, but its a really nice place, really close to the sights, so it was worth it! I decided to stroll around the neighbourhood for a bit to get my bearings. So far it seems that Madrid isn't going to be full of "tourist attractions" that I want to visit, but it has a really nice vibe that I'm thoroughly enjoying! Unfortunately I had to cut my sightseeing short because it started to rain...boo! But here are a few pics I managed to get:

On the way back to the hostel I grabbed some classy Sangria in a plastic bottle (apparantly its the #1 Sangria in the world!) and hung out with some people in the lounge.

I made a few friends and we decided to go to an authentic flamenco show just down the street. They have a deal with the hostel so it was 50% off (only 15 euros) and it was definitely worth every penny!

Love, Dianna
