We headed to the train station and after a bit of a mix-up at the ticket office (totally not my fault, and surprisingly had nothing to do with the fact that I can't speak Spanish!) we were on our way to Barcelona. Unfortunately our seats didn't end up together, but it was one of the nicest trains I've been on so far- brand new seats...they even showed a movie! And I was so excited because the movie was in ENGLISH, but then I discovered it was that stupid animated Star Wars film...ya, I definitely ended up reading my book instead!
We arrived in Barcelona around 2pm but didn't get to our hotel til 4. Part of that had to do with the fact that we needed to talk to information and figure out our route to Marseille on Sunday, AND the fact that we got lost (again) trying to find our hotel. I have lost my touch, I tell ya! It's actually more of an aartment than a hotel room- kitchen, couch, tv..another great find!
We headed down to Las Ramblas to check out all the action (its a looong street with souvenir vendors, street performers, restaurants....very touristy!), and also went to the Cathedral which unfortunately had some renovations going on. Did I mention that there is construction going on EVERYWHERE in Spain? Someone was telling me it's due to the economy; the government is creating lots of jobs...but its all construction!
After wandering around the Gothic Quarter (and getting lost) we finally found a place for dinner- and it turned out to be fantastic! (don't I say that about every place we go to??) We had a very yummy, very Spanish meal of wine and tapas, and then it was back to our "apartment" to recharge for tomorrow!
Love, Dianna
