Day 35: A Roman Thanksgiving!

Well last night wasn't exactly a "quiet night in" but it also wasn't as crazy as i thought it was going to end up! I met a few Canadian girls at my hostel and we made friends with a few Brazilians that were also staying in our room. They invited us to go on a Pub crawl they had heard about...well, you know how the saying goes: "When in Rome"! We hopped on the metro and went to the Spanish Steps which was where the pub crawl was meeting. I was amazed that at 10:00 at night it was jam-packed with people just hanging out on the steps! We were unfortunately a little late and MISSED the pub crawl so we decided to make our own fun! We went to a little corner store, picked up a few bottles of wine and paper cups and headed to the Trevi Fountain! I had a sort of surreal moment while I was there- sitting by the fountain, drinking wine...a bunch of choral singers even came by and decided to burst into song which just added to the amazing atmosphere! How many people can say they've experienced that?! With Thanksgiving this weekend I definitely have a LOT to be thankful for (although it doesn't FEEL like Thanksgiving with it being 25 degrees and sunny today!) I have been experiencing some pretty great things these past few weeks- I thought I would be dying to get home but to be honest, seeing all these amazing things just wants me to travel even more and see even MORE exciting stuff!

Anyways, I got off on a tangent there....when I woke up this morning the sun was shining and I knew it was going to be a perfect day for sightseeing (I was a little worried because last night when were heading home it was pouring!) I've been to Rome before so there wasn't really anything specific I wanted to see- it was just a day of wandering around the city! But it seemed like everyone else plus their mother and their brother had the same idea as me! I don't know if it was so busy because it was a Sunday or maybe it was due to the great weather but if this is their LOW season then I don't want to know what its like here in August! Everywhere I went it was jam packed...it was actually a little too crazy-tourist-insanity for my liking! Which brings up another pet peeve of mine: tour groups. I've been on a bus tour before so I'm not bashing them- its an easy and stress-free way to travel around- but when you are one person trying to manouver around a group of 40 people just STANDING right in the middle of a sidewalk, it can get a little frustrating! Plus when they actually ARE walking, they move soooo slow! Be a little considerate people!

After checking out the Colosseum, the Pantheon, Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain and a whole bunch more (except the Vatican- I'm doing that tomorrow!), I headed home to relax for a bit. Since we missed out on the Pub Crawl yesterday I think we might try and do that tonight. Happy Thanksgiving everyone!!!

Love, Dianna
