Day 44: For The Love of Nutella!

We have peanut butter, Australians have Vegemite, and Europeans have Nuella. Hands down, Nutella wins! Its like eating chocolate for breakfast- who doesn't love that?! I have definitely been eating my fair share of Nutella this trip- probably not the healthiest choice, but I can't resist! Most of the hostels have it for breakfast so I have been taking full advantage of it- some just have the single portion sizes but this hostel I'm staying at in Naples is a little more serious about their Nutella- they have a 5kg tub! Now that's what I'm talking about!

Well this morning turned out to be quite the downer. I wanted to mail some stuff home; I had bought some souvenirs that I didn't want to lug around, as well I wanted to make room for the warmer clothes I had bought. I packaged up a box that was quite small- maybe the size of 2 small shoeboxes?- and it didn't seem that heavy either. But when I went to the post office they proved me wrong! It was going to cost me 56 euros to send it to Canada! That's probably double the cost of the actual items inside! I decided that was just too much to spend- so I guess I will be lugging it around with me for the rest of my trip! Luckily there is only 2 more weeks left before I'm back in London where I can leave it at Kit and Laura's, so it won't be that bad. I will just have to do some creative packing for the 2 flights I have to take!

On the way home from the post office (to make me feel better) I had a canolli- my new favourite dessert! It's hard to describe...pastry, chocolatey, creamy goodness is what I would call it though! And also cheering me up was the weather: not only was it sunny out, but also WARM! I actually took OFF my sweater today! After dropping off my unsent package at my hostel I hopped on the bus to Mount Vesuvius. The bus only goes up to 1000 meters- you have to hike the rest! It only took me about 15 minutes but it was quite the incline! When I first arrived I was regretting not bringing more layers (I forgot how it gets colder the higher you get!) but once I started the hike I immediately warmed up! Its a pretty cool sight to see- not only do you get views of all of Naples and Pompeii, but the volcano is pretty cool itself! Some areas were smoking (I hope that doesn't mean its going to blow any time soon!) and the thing is just massive!

For dinner I went to- where else?- Sorbillo's! I just HAD to get the best pizza in Naples (probably the world!) for my last night in Italy. Of course it was amazing so I couldn't have asked for more! Tomorrow morning I am off to Athens. I am getting a little nervous about heading to the Greek Islands, though. Everyone keeps telling me how dead it will be and how everything shuts down...am I going to be the only one there? Will I be able to find a place to stay? I might change my plan a little bit and head to only the bigger islands...but I'm not sure! I'll try and ask around more when I am in Athens- the only thing I know is I have to be in Mykonos on November 4th because thats when I fly back to London...so hopefully it will all work out for me!

Love, Dianna
