Day 41: So Coooold in Capri!

At first I thought this was just the hostels I was staying at, but I also noticed it at many of the hotels Mom and I stayed it so it must be a European thing- FLAT PILLOWS! Honestly, why do they even give me a pillow when its as flat as a pancake and it doesn't even make a difference? Don't people know that flat pillows are bad for your back and neck? Jeesh! At least I know who to sue when I can't walk in 20 years! HAHA

Okay, I'm sure you would like to know how my day went so here it goes: The forecast was calling for the same weather as we had yesterday so I thought we would be able to enjoy a beautiful day on the island of Capri. Well, turns out the weather forecast was wrong! The sky had already clouded over by the time we left the hostel and by the time we got off the boat in Capri it was POURING. And of course this was the day that I realized I LOST my umbrella so I had to do a makeshift head covering with my scarf. I looked a little goofy but at least I stayed somewhat dry! The heavy rain did taper off pretty quickly but the showers did continue throughout most of the day. That meant that the famous "blue grotto" was closed (another place I'll have to come back to one day!) but we still got to walk around the different areas of town, plus we took a chair lift (a one-seater!) up to the highest point on the island for some pretty views (well, minus the clouds).

Maybe the weather had something to do with it, but I wasn't that impressed with Capri. I had heard it was very fancy and expensive so in my mind I pictured something along the lines of Monaco. It did have a few high end shops like Prada but other than that it just seemed like your typical Italian down! Don't get me wrong though, it was still beautiful and I still had a great time!

Tomorrow I am heading back to Naples for a few days before I fly to Athens- I had allotted more time for Sorrento and the Amalfi Coast but since the weather still isn't the greatest and I can't go to the beach or anything, I figured I might as well head to the big city with more to do. I'm hoping the rain will stop for at least ONE day so I can climb Mount Vesuvius- how many people can say they've been on top of an active volcano?!

Love, Dianna
