Day 36: The Pope, Some Pasta, and a Little Piece of Heaven

Last night was once again a night that didn't go exactly according to plan- but a great time was had nonetheless! We planned on going on the pub crawl since we missed it on Saturday night...but guess what- we missed it again! So instead we decided to go on a little pub crawl of our own! About 8 of us from the hostel went to about 4 different clubs/bars (and had a few drinks at each!), so as you can guess it wasn't a super early morning for me today! I did try to wake up at a semi-reasonable hour though- I did want to miss out on my last day in Rome!

The forecast was calling for showers today but when I headed out this morning it was gorgeous! I hopped on the metro and headed to the Vatican, but when I got there the weather had turned and it was raining! But fortunately it didn't last long- by the time I reached St. Peter's it was sunny again! Luckily I had already been inside the Vatican during my first trip to Rome a few years ago because the line-up today was MASSIVE! It went halfway across the square! I didn't stay there long- took a few pictuers and then I continued walking. I passed by a few more sights but then my stomach started grumbling so I set out to find a restaurant for lunch. I had been craving pasta like crazy so I found a nice little place when I satisfied myself with some delicious (ok, a LOT) of spaghetti pomodoro.

Stuffed from lunch I went in search of a tobacci shop so I could buy a bus ticket and go home. I headed into Piazza Navona and immediately got distracted by something I like to call HEAVEN. What I thought was a chocolate cupcake with whipped cream on top turned out to be something so much more. It was like a little chocolate ice cream cake with big hunks of really rich chocolate, plus of course the whipped cream, AND a surpise in the middle- a marachino cherry! It cost 5€ but it was worth every penny. I wasn't even hungry at the time because I just ate a huge lunch but I knew I could not leave without trying one! (and I definitely had no problems eating the whole thing!)

I THEN made it to the bus stop where it decided to start POURING. I can't complain though, the weather seemed to be working quite well with my shcedule. I ate lunch outside, saw the Vatican and walked around most of the day with the sun shining! I know I say this a LOT but tonight is DEFINITELY going to be an early night for me. I'm still a little tired from yesterday plus my train to Naples is at 9:30 tomorrow morning! Although I'm not sure I even WANT to go to Naples anymore- I checked the weather and its supposed to be around 15 degrees for the next few days! Brr! I'm not used to it being that cold! (I know, kill me now! haha)

Love, Dianna
