I was in no rush to head out this morning- the weather was still dreary in Sorrento and I knew it would be much of the same in Naples. After eating breakfast, packing up, etc, I headed to the train station and made it to Naples around noon. I figured since not much was going on today I would get some things done like laundry. While waiting for my clothes to dry I headed out to walk around a bit. It was VERY different from when I was here last! Since it was Sunday it was like a ghost town- barely any cars on the street and hardly any stores were open...it felt weird not having to fear for my life everytime I crossed the street! I did manage to pick up a new umbrella (2.50 euros) but thats about it! I couldn't even get groceries for dinner tonight because the supermarket was closed! (I had already learned that my favourite pizza place wasn't open today...I guess I'll have to settle for having pizza only tomorrow and Tuesday! haha)
I think my plan for the next few days is to go to the Archeological Museum tomorrow (many of the artifacts at Pompeii were just replicas- the originals are at this museum!) and then head to Mount Vesuvius on Tuesday. I'm trying to think of the silver lining with this change of plan (and weather!). I've had quite a busy trip so far so it'll be nice to just relax (even if its not on a beach!) I also feel a cold coming on so now I can take this time to rest up and hopefully be 100% for Greece! I'm going to enjoy what the Italians like to call "il bel far niente"- the beauty of doing nothing.
Love, Dianna
