Day 34: Pisa to Roma!

What's the deal with having to pay for toilets in Europe? I can understand not wanting a million tourists coming into your restaurant to use the bathroom, but when I am paying for something, I think I deserve a free toilet! Main example- train stations! Today I had to pay 60 cents! A little frustrating for someone who goes to the bathroom a LOT...although at least I know those toilets will be clean unlike some I've used this trip!

Anyways, enough ranting, let me tell you about my day. This morning I caught the 9am train to Pisa. The weather was still cloudy and dreary from yesterday's rain but I was hoping it would change by the time I got to Pisa- wrong! The rain followed me! But of course, not letting that stop me I took the bus to the Campo dei Miracoli (Feild of Miracles) which is not only home to the Leaning Tower but a bunch of beautiful old buildings. You know how some things get hyped up and when you finally see them they're not as good as you thought they'd be? Well I'm glad to say that didn't happen! The Leaning Tower did not disappoint. I was worried that I wouldn't be able to go into the Tower (I had read about the long lines and how its best to reserve tickets in advance) but when I got there I was pleasantly surprised! There was not ONE person in line (which at first made me think that tickets were sold out for the day) but I easily got a tickets for the tour an hour later. It's quite pricey to go up to the top (15€)...not sure if its worth it, but now I can say I've done it! The stair cases are very steep and narrow (not the best idea after hiking for over 4 hours yesterday!) but the view was pretty cool from the top! Oh, and I forgot to mention that the rain stopped about 15 minutes after I arrived- someone is looking down on me!

My train to Rome wasn't until 3pm so I wandered around the town for a bit- very cute, but to be honest there is not much else to see besides the Tower! The 3-hour ride to Rome was uneventful and my hostel is very close to the train station so getting there and checking in was a breeze! Nothing planned for tonight- although who knows what will happen if I meet some new people...it is Saturday night afterall!

Love, Dianna
